Who are the Seals?
Welcome to the Sioux Falls
Seals Swim Team Website! The Seals Swim Team is a non-profit
organization that is proudly affiliated with United States Swimming
(USA Swimming) and the South Dakota Local Swimming Committee
(SDLSC).
The SDLSC, along with 58 other LSCs across the
nation, comprise USA Swimming—the national governing body for
amateur competitive swimming.
The Seals team holds
strongly to the mission and objectives declared by USA
Swimming:
- To inspire and
enable our members to achieve excellence in the sport of swimming
and in life.
- We seek to expand
our membership in order to share our sport with as many others as
possible. We are especially committed to sharing the values of our
sport with young people who may discover that swimming is an
activity they can enjoy for their entire life.
- We want swimming to
receive as much publicity as possible. We are proud of our sport
and we seek to celebrate it whenever possible.
However, our most
important objectives are best expressed in our Team’s Mission
Statement:
“Families
and Athletes committed to fellowship and good sportsmanship at all
competitive swimming levels.”
All competitive
levels
The Seals Swim Team is a year-round swim club that offers age
group swimming for children from the beginning swimmer, those just
learning the 4 swim strokes used in competition, to the most
competitive and skilled swimmer. We compete against ourselves as we
try to improve our swimming times. We compete against ourselves and
other swimmers when we race in competitive swim meets. Swimmers are
encouraged but not required to compete in meets.
Swim coaches,
including ours, have sometimes used the analogy,
“Would you rather
take your Mack truck and stomp on the gas until the engine blows
up, OR would you like to spend some time, build a Ferrari, then go
racing?”
Technique in
swimming is every bit as important as building aerobic endurance.
It’s the piece of the puzzle that makes State 2nd, 3rd or 4th
place finishers into State Champions. It’s what puts those
who lack confidence in the water in charge of their own
swimming.
The thrill of stroke refinement is what makes swimming a life-long
sport. Teaching athletes how to best achieve this is our
goal.
